For several years, Mary had experienced constant pain in her right knee. An avid gardener and active individual, she found everyday tasks increasingly difficult—whether it was bending down in her garden, climbing stairs, or simply getting in and out of the car, the pain was becoming hard to ignore. After consulting with Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Brad Binsfeld, and Orthopedic PA-C, Nate Stocco, and trying a few non-surgical treatments, she decided to move forward with robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery—a decision she says was an easy one.

How did she choose Grant Regional to have her surgery? Also easy, Mary explains. “I’ll be honest. My husband had a consultation for knee replacement surgery a few years ago at another hospital and unfortunately it was not a positive experience,” shared Mary. After that, we learned that we could change our Medical Associates Health Plan to the Freedom Plan which allowed him to have surgery in Lancaster. Thanks to the exceptional care her husband received at Grant Regional, Mary did not hesitate to choose the same for her surgery.

“I’m happy to say that my experience at Grant Regional has been very positive. The pre-op Joint Replacement University was so beneficial and informative! From my surgery team, nursing staff, to the delicious meals and everything in between – my experience has been exceptional,” said Mary.

“Following surgery, I had physical therapy for six weeks. I couldn’t believe how much muscle strength I had lost leading up to surgery just from overcompensating for the aches and pains to get around.”

Her physical therapy team is happy with her progress, crediting the skill of Dr. Binsfeld and the precision of the robotic procedure for reducing inflammation and improving joint alignment, which made rehabilitation faster and less painful.

“The PT staff is top notch!” explained Mary. “They really take the time to know you. Brandon Krantz, DPT, and Ashley Lang, PTA, were excellent and really helped me gain more confidence during my recovery.”

“I’m proud to choose local care,” smiles Mary. “I have so many reasons why Grant Regional is special to me. I was a ‘handy’ here in the 60’s and went on to be a nurse. Years later, when my husband’s spleen ruptured -- thankfully our hometown hospital was minutes away or we might have lost him. I was very grateful to our hospital back then and I am even more so today.”
